Many issues can arise from over training. You actually lose on your strength and muscle gains if you over train your body. It can also lead to decreased immune response depending on how much you over do it.

We are excited to announce that we are reopening our office on May 19th 2020.✋ Due to the continuing COVID-19 situation, we will be committed to taking all of the necessary precautions to create a safe environment for our clients and our team.
- We ask that each client please bring a face mask for yourself and please bring your own change of clothes to wear during the appointment (eg. shorts, t-shirt or tank top)
- To implement social distancing, clients alone will only be allowed to wait in our waiting room (exceptions may be accepted if a client needs special assistance)
- All staff members will be required to wear face masks and will perform frequent hand washing and sanitizing of physiotherapy equipment and other office surfaces
- Plexiglass has already been installed at the front desk and various signage/markings on the floor will help direct clients in the safest manner

For any clients who show any signs of cold or flu like symptoms, if you have been in contact with someone with these symptoms or if you have travelled outside of the province in the last 14 days, we ask that you please refrain from visiting our office. You are welcome to book an Online Telehealth Video Visit with one of our physiotherapists who will still be able to assess and give advice on treatment options.

Here are a few exercises you can do for your lower body right in the comfort of your own home (flip through the other images in the post to see a video demo). It's a great way to get some bigger muscle groups working so that you burn more calories throughout the day.
1) Foot taps - use this one to boost your heart rate and get some cardio throughout your exercise set (4 × 30 seconds, as fast as you can!) 2) Hamstring curls on the ball - wake up those hamstrings that tend to be under-active. Keep your hips extended throughout the entire exercise (aim for 3 × 10)
3) Forward lunge - when you step forward, centre your weight over the rear leg. When in the lunge position, the front and back knee should form a 90° angle, as should the angle between both the legs. Tuck your bum in so you do not extend your lumbar. (3 × 10)
4) Squats - sit back with your hips and get your bum back. Make sure your knees don't pass your toes, and that your knees line up with your second toe. (3 × 10)
Give yourself a challenge and superset them!

It's been amazing how Telehealth has helped many of my clients! As a physio, sometimes it's easy to fall into the trap of doing too much manual therapy and not enough exercise prescription. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have had to close our practice temporarily, but the silver lining is it has forced us to do the majority of our treatment through exercise prescription and consult. And many of our clients are surprised just how much better they feel and how effective our exercise prescription has been.
